Our client, who was considering a kitchen renovation in Pitlochry, visited our showroom for ideas and inspiration. Kitchen Design Brief
Our clients wanted a traditional-style kitchen renovation with a calm, neutral colour scheme. They needed plenty of storage to keep the space organised, a dedicated dining area for hosting guests, and a separate hob for festive cooking. Our clients preferred shaker-style cabinetry and tiled flooring to create a timeless, elegant kitchen. They also aimed to make the most of their space by adding practical design elements that keep the room organised and functional.
Kitchen survey
We visited our client’s home for a survey to fully understand their vision and assess the design practicality. It was necessary to reimagine their kitchen with an open layout that reflects all the details aligned with their brief, which our client was happy for us to do. During a relaxed conversation, we discussed how they currently use their room, how many guests they often host, and their likes and dislikes for how the kitchen currently works.
We discussed their specific requirements for additional cooking facilities separate from the AGA, a drinks area, and the chosen colours and finishes, and carefully incorporated every detail into their kitchen renovation in Pitlochry.
Kitchen Design
We positioned the dining area at one end of the kitchen to maximise natural light and make the most of the window view. We incorporated bench seating alongside additional chairs to comfortably host up to 11 family members or guests. Adjacent to the dining area, we added built-in cabinetry with an integrated drinks cabinet, creating a practical and stylish refreshment area.
The sink is positioned along one side of the kitchen, set into a long worktop that provides ample space. We introduced wall-mounted cabinets for easily accessible storage, complemented by base units that keep essentials neatly organised. The original classic cast-iron range cooker was reintegrated into the design, combining distinctive style with practical functionality.
We personalised the design layout to reflect the client’s vision, carefully incorporating every element from their brief into the 3D design. Using our CAD system, we presented the kitchen in 3D virtual reality, allowing the client to virtually walk through the space and preview the layout, products, and colour scheme before installation. Our client requested a few minor adjustments, which we implemented, after which they approved the installation to proceed.
Our Kitchen Renovation Approach And Product Selection
We selected Hacker Systemat cabinetry for its exceptional durability and distinctive design, combining functionality with style. To complete the kitchen sink area, we fitted a Franke stainless steel sink into the sink base, paired with a Quooker tap renowned for its instant boiling water. We selected Dekton by Consentino for all our countertops for its durability and distinctive finish. High-quality NEFF appliances, from the canopy hood and fridge to the Slide & Hide oven and undercounter wine cabinet, are seamlessly built into the cabinetry, ensuring both style and functionality.
We added a bespoke floating shelf above the Aga cooker, precisely sized to enhance the space while providing additional storage. The cabinetry features matte nickel pull knobs, perfectly complementing the kitchen’s colour scheme whilst adding elegance to the space. We installed Original Style Porcelain Arcadian Field Tiles throughout, valued for their timeless style, durability, and low maintenance.
Preparation Process.
We identified the front door as the most practical access point and carefully laid protective dust sheets and carpet film from the entrance to minimise disruption during the kitchen renovation. We will position an 8-yard skip on the driveway to manage debris removal. Before starting work, we isolate the existing water supplies and carefully strip out all appliances, units, and wall tiles.
Kitchen Installation – plumbing work
We adapted all hot, cold, and drainage services to suit the new kitchen layout, ensuring a seamless fit. Our team installed and fully plumbed the sink and all specified appliances for safe, efficient operation, and fitted and commissioned a Quooker tap for instant boiling water. We carefully relocated the radiator and adjusted the pipework to maintain optimal performance.
Kitchen fitting – Joinery work
After the strip-out, we installed plasterboard on walls and ceilings where needed and carefully repaired any lath-and-plaster areas affected by tile removal. We added framing above the wall units to achieve a flush ceiling finish and fitted dwangs to provide solid support for cupboards, radiators, and accessories. The new kitchen units were then installed according to the design, complete with plinths, fillers, and end panels for a seamless, polished look.
We templated, supplied, and installed solid worktops and constructed a shaker-style panel with a floating shelf above the AGA to house the extraction unit. In the dining area, we lowered the window sill to seat height and created an MDF tongue-and-groove seating and table arrangement, matching the existing window seat. We integrated storage into the seating with piano-hinged lids and multiple compartments.
Kitchen installation – Electrical works
We installed pendant and LED lighting throughout, including an adjustable pendant above the dining area, downlights, and under-unit lighting. Our team fitted dimmers and switches and wired and connected all appliances, including the fan, cooker, and TV. We replaced low-level sockets with brushed stainless-steel faceplates and added power points and a new grid switch, all in accordance with the electrical plan.
Kitchen Installation – Tiling
We prepared and installed the tiles on the worktop splashback according to the specified design. Each tile was carefully fitted to ensure uniformity and durability, then fully grouted, sealed, and polished to create a clean, durable, and visually cohesive surface for the kitchen workspace.
