Our client sought an Orangery-style kitchen installation in Edinburgh that would blend seamlessly with their new extension and complement the overall design of their home. Key requirements included a spacious kitchen island with an extensive worktop, a dedicated cooking area, and generous additional storage. They also requested an integrated dining area, creating a space suitable for both everyday meals and entertaining. To maintain a sleek, modern look, our client preferred integrated appliances with the cabinetry.
Kitchen Extension Survey
We started with a detailed survey to gain a thorough understanding of our client’s vision and how the design could function effectively within their space. Through informal, friendly discussions, we explored their intended use of their new kitchen installation, preferred products, and desired finishes. It quickly became clear that reimagining the layout was essential, not only to accommodate their design style outlined in the brief but also to ensure the kitchen space felt open, comfortable, and well-balanced.
Orangery Kitchen Design
We positioned the island in the centre of the orangery kitchen to allow easy movement and create an efficient cooking experience. It incorporates a worktop, sink, hob, and downdraft extractor, creating a practical and functional cooking zone. Adjacent to the island, a dining area extends the space, enhancing both usability and social interaction. At one end of the space, a full-height cabinetry wall accommodates built-in appliances, pantry storage, and additional cupboards, contributing to a clean, streamlined appearance.
A feature wall with wallpaper was incorporated to add character and a personal touch, making the space uniquely suited to the client. Using our advanced 3D design system, we produced a detailed virtual representation of the kitchen, providing the client with a clear and realistic preview of the finished space. Every product and design element was accurately visualised, enabling the client to make confident, informed decisions. Our Kitchen Installation Approach And Production
This bespoke kitchen installation combines carefully considered design with high-performance appliances and products that offer innovative features and ease of use. The space includes a coordinated collection of integrated Miele appliances, such as a built-in fridge, freezer, induction hob, and downdraft extractor. It also features a steam oven, combination microwave, wine cooler, vacuum drawer, coffee machine, and warming drawers.All appliances are seamlessly integrated into the bespoke, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, creating a clean and modern appearance.
We created ample storage with tall larder units, deep pan drawers, and gentle-close features throughout for added convenience. We included a pull-out waste bin system for organised recycling with easy access, while a swivel larder unit with adjustable baskets adds space-saving storage for everyday essentials. Natural oak cutlery trays and knife inserts bring a touch of craftsmanship, perfectly complementing the painted anthracite cabinetry and brushed aluminium slimline handles. Dekton worktops, paired with matching laminated surfaces, create a sleek, durable, and long-lasting finish.
The Hansgrohe built-in sink and Quooker tap, known for delivering instant boiling water, complete the sink area for seamless, effortless use. Programmable underfloor heating enhances comfort, complemented by a matte anthracite radiator and a Wendover heated rail. We created a cohesive kitchen installation by finishing the cabinetry, seating, and dining table in the same colour tone, creating a cohesive palette that enhances the kitchen’s overall scheme while adding a refined, luxurious touch.
Modern Kitchen Installation
Our plumbers carefully adjusted all hot, cold, and drainage systems to fit the new kitchen extension and utility room layout, including any necessary excavations. We installed new appliances throughout, seamlessly relocating and integrating the existing dishwasher into the utility room. We fitted a new radiator according to the design plan and thoroughly tested all plumbing work to ensure reliable performance. Our joiners installed the kitchen cabinetry in line with the approved layout and precisely templated and fitted the solid worktops, completing the space with a sleek, functional finish.
Our tiling team prepared the sub-floor with Wedi insulation before laying floor tiles seamlessly through the kitchen and new inner hall. They fitted white, stainless steel, and chrome profiles as needed for a clean, professional finish. Our electricians installed all new switches and sockets, using brushed steel for visible areas and white for concealed locations. They also wired the underfloor heating in two separate phases, each controlled by a programmable thermostat.
We also installed a new extractor fan, connecting it to the existing ducting. Decoration work included taping and filling plasterboard, followed by painting the kitchen, inner hall, and utility room with two coats of emulsion on walls and ceilings. We finished the woodwork, including doors, side windows, and architraves, in gloss white and wallpapered a feature wall according to the design plan.
