Client Brief
After we renovated their kitchen in their Glasgow home, a returning client approached us for another kitchen renovation for their retirement home in Aberfeldy. Having worked with our team and experienced our commitment to quality, premium products and a smooth, stress-free renovation process, they knew we were the right team to bring their vision to life.
Our client wanted a traditional-style kitchen that complemented the character of their cottage home while incorporating modern appliances and contemporary functionality. The brief focused on maximising storage to maintain a calm, uncluttered space, incorporating glass-fronted cabinetry to display treasured family pieces, and using a soothing, neutral colour palette to create a timeless kitchen.
Our team arranged a survey to assess the practicality of the client’s vision, understand the space, and establish the full scope of the kitchen renovation. We engaged in friendly conversation with our client to understand how they intend to use their space, the ideal products, finishes, and colour scheme for their new kitchen.
Challenges
A key challenge was working within the existing layout of a compact space while keeping the kitchen practical and spacious, whilst incorporating every element on our client’s wish list. Through careful planning, we introduced taller, deeper cabinetry for more storage and additional shelves without compromising the kitchen’s flow. We relocated the kitchen door further toward the hallway, improving circulation from the hallway to the kitchen and making the space feel more open and spacious.
Design Process
Our design team redesigned the space, working with the existing layout and introducing clever storage solutions to create a kitchen that feels open, spacious and effortlessly functional. We thoughtfully incorporated base and wall cabinetry throughout, with taller, deeper units providing extra shelving and maximising every inch of available storage. We added underfloor heating and a heated rail to keep the kitchen cosy and warm.
We integrated the appliances seamlessly into the cabinetry, creating a cohesive finish while keeping the kitchen organised and clutter-free. We incorporated every element in the design brief into the drawing. Using our CAD system, we created a 3D virtual representation of the kitchen renovation in Aberfeldy.
We invited our client to a relaxed design presentation over a cup of coffee, where we unveiled a 3D design of their kitchen and walked them through each element. This allowed them to visualise their kitchen in detail, including colour palette, cabinetry, products and finishes, before installation.
Our Approach and Installation
Having experienced the quality of Masterclass Kitchens during their previous kitchen renovation at their Glasgow home, our client chose Masterclass cabinetry once again, confident in its exceptional craftsmanship, enduring quality and timeless design. We incorporated 900 × 600mm wall units, providing additional shelf space to maximise storage.
Neff appliances, including a Slide & Hide oven, induction hob and angled chimney hood, were seamlessly integrated into the cabinetry alongside a Siemens dishwasher and washer-dryer, keeping the space streamlined and clutter-free.
The Abode sink and tap were chosen for their quality, practicality and timeless style, complementing the overall kitchen design. Ca’ Pietra teak-textured porcelain tiles, paired with the cabinetry finish, create a warm, neutral palette that makes the space feel welcoming and timeless. Brushed nickel fittings are used throughout, introducing subtle contrast while maintaining a cohesive and timeless finish.
The installation was completed by our fully employed in-house trades team, ensuring a consistently high standard of workmanship throughout. We carried out all plumbing, drainage and gas works required for the new kitchen layout, including connecting the sink, tap, washing machine and appliances. All gas work was carried out by a registered Gas Safe engineer, ensuring safety and compliance throughout.
We also completed joinery, tiling, and plumbing works, including installing the cabinetry, bespoke shelving, compact laminate worktops, upstands, Amtico click flooring, and skirting details. Our tilers completed the wall tiling, underfloor heating, grouting and waterproofing. Electrical installations included under-cabinet and plinth lighting, dimmer controls, additional sockets with USB and USB-C charging points, and appliance connections.
